Day 90 -- Dandenong National Park

I woke up early and decided I would take the day to try out Dandenong National Park. After some intensive map consulting I headed for the train station to catch a link to the closest point. Bad idea. So it turns out a particular segment of track was closed and they were busing folks around the track work - 3 stations up the line- to the next available stop. Problem? Well as I went to get on the bus the lovely guard informed me that I would not be able to take my bike and would have to ride to the next station - great. Plus he didn't give very good directions and I ended up having to stop at a flea market and ask where on earth I was. Anyway I eventually made it Camberwell where I could once again get on my line for Upper Ferntree Gully - except once I boarded the train it changed locations so I needed to switch trains again in Ringwood. Needless to say it took over 2 hours to get to the park!! It was worth it though. I locked the bike up and proceeded to go on a nice 4 hour hike around the park - and only managed to get lost a few times (people literally had ripped some signs up and switched them - who does that?!?!). It was pretty hilly but a good workout and the forests were beautiful. I headed for home about 3:30 and suffered through another series of transfers and train juggling but found my way without any major problems. After diner and a much needed shower I set to work organizing for my Sydney trip and adding to the word count on my paper.

Eastern Rosella

My bird book is buried - but if I recalled this was a Cuckoo Spp.

A wild turtle!! - They had a fence up to keep crazy people out of the pond

A pea??

The forest ( I think this area had been burned as many of the trees had scarring)

The steps - this 1,000 step trail was in honor of the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea where Australians fought in WW II
