A very early start at 4:30 - Victoria and I figured no one else would have any energy to pack the trailer so we volunteered again and were awake and already packing before anyone else even moved. It was another long day of driving interrupted by bathroom stops and a scenic stop of Shark Bay. We also stopped for lunch at Hamelin Pool - the home of the Stromatolites. These little guys are our link to creatures billions of years ago. Basically they are cyanobacteria that build layers of limestone into polyp shaped rock things. Not particularly interesting to look at since they are essentially living rocks but cool to think about. After lunch we headed on our way and took another rest to run around on some giant sand dunes. It was really fun - though of course we are on our second day without a shower after swimming in the ocean and still have a whole day to go - so it definitely added to the crusty feel of the bus. We made camp in an awesome little clearing right next to the beach. Everybody sat around talking for a while and then decided to set up tents because the clouds looked a little foreboding - we learned.

Shark Bay is out there...and lots of sand

A dried up water hole - the white is salt

The Stromatolite Walkway

Related to the earliest life forms

A shell quarry - I had no idea these existed

All the little bumps are tiny little shells - they become fused together because of a water induced chemical reaction and then can be cut into blocks and used for building

A harrier species - forgot the book upstairs- I'll edit this

Hello Sand (he lands sort of on his head, but it looks cool)

Weeeeeeee!

Dunes forever - I was amazed - people just drive right over them with cars and bikes! No Regs!

So much sand - they are also much steeper than they look here
