Day 71 - WA - Intro to Karijina National Park

The day started early, the group managed to get everyone on the bus and leave on time. The sunrise was beautiful and I saw heaps of Wedge-tailed Eagles soaring over the desert feasting on roadkill Kangaroos. I slept off and onbetween reading until our food shop in Neuman. We ended up adding another member to our cooking group (Simon from Germany) and we successfully stocked up for the next 3 days. We made lunch in the carpark of the supermarket before continuing our journey northward. I saw a camel from the bus but we were moving to quick for a pic - but how awesome is that? Andy informed me that Australia has the largest feral camel herd in the world - crazy!!! The landscape slowly started changing to Gorge country as we neared the park and the mountains/hills were outstanding. The contrast of the bright red soil and the yellow grasses was very asthetic. Finally after what seemed like days we reached our campsite within Karijina. Everyone was so excited and we quickly unpacked the bus and headed for our first Gorge exploration. Jarrod led us down into Dale's Gorge to a beautiful natural swimming hole. We spent the evening swimming and playing in the waterfall before it started to get too dark. We hiked back to camp just as dusk fell and made dinner. After some delicious cous cous we were all sitting around chatting and enjoying the absolutley awesome sky when Jarrod spotted a big Dingo creeping about the camp. Again I didn't get a photo because cause it was so quick but I got a good look - they really do just look like a lost dog, just unfriendly. Andy warned us to hide our shoes before bed because sometimes Dingos steal them. It was a clear night so we slept out under the stars without tents. I ventured about in the dark a bit looking for more creatures but only discovered some big spiders (they have eye shine?!) lurking by our tarp (where we were sleeping) which inspired us to move...
The bus seat - where we are from and our favorite animal...

The Karijina national Park situated in purnululu national park, The bungle range is one of the most interesting geological sites in Western Australia. Erosion over the last 20 million years have helped form the black and orange striped dome features.
