Day 70 - WA - The driving begins

We met our guides, Jarrod and Andy, and the rest of the group (23 students) in front of the hostel at 7am to start the adventure. We would be traveling North in a 25 seater mini bus with a small trailer attached for our gear. I can't say it was a very exciting day as we needed to cover 700 km of road. We made some pit stops for food and gas but all in all it was relatively uneventful. About an hour before dusk we arrived at our camp for the night - Nallan Station - a sheep shearing quarters. It was nice but the cattle fences made it difficult to explore. After some quick games of cricket we went through proper introductions and got the typical safety talk for the trip. Soon we were all crowded in a small kitchen making dinner. Jarrod found a frog for me to examine and I also spotted a gecko. It was super windy and very cold considering we were in a desert. It was a pretty early night since we were leaving 5:30 to make some time on the road.

The outback border

Nothing for miles but blooming outback

The bus (and the red dirt that now is on everything I own)

An infamous road train - these big boys own the highways in the outback - mostly delivering equipment for the iron mining companies that are scattered throughout the northwest
Cricket in the yard/dirt area next to the shearer's quarters
A Desert Tree Frog (i think)
Big cool-looking cockroach
