The two people who stayed in my hostel room – Josh (Long Island) and Chaenny (Korea – from the Welcome program if you remember back that long ago) decided to take a tour of Rottnest Island on Wednesday. My flight didn’t leave till 6 and Josh and Chenny were staying till Thursday. We took the 9:30 ferry out to the island and rented bikes for the duration. Basically Rottnest is a small tourist town trapped on an island. People aren’t allowed to bring their cars so there is very little traffic and bikes are a nice way to see everything. There is a bike loop circling the island and heaps of beaches. It was raining for the morning off and on but I’m still glad we went. The first animal we saw on the island… was a cock bird – as in a Ringneck pheasant - just hanging out in the bush - er ok??? Anyway throughout our time there we also saw some Quokkas (mini marsupial kangarooish creatures that the island was named after – they build some type of little nest) and some peacocks. Of course the weather cleared up just as we were leaving to catch the 2 o' clock ferry home but at least we got to see a little sunshine. After the ferry ride I picked up my stuff and headed for the train station to get back to Perth. I ended up having to catch a cab (which I completely failed to hail correctly) from the train station in Perth to the airport because I couldn’t find the bus. I made it to the airport just fine and actually met two other girls from the trip who had stayed in the city the night before. The flight went well and we split a cab back to the University once we landed. We had the best cab driver ever – he wouldn’t let me walk the extra 3 blocks to Whitley – because it was late and dark – so he turned off his fare meter and took me there for no charge – what a nice old man!
And so ends my tale of Western Australia - I apologize because that took forever - in the meantime my computer no longer can connect to the internet so I need the lab to do anything - grr. I'll eventually get caught up though, no worries :0)

A beautiful beach - wish it wasn't raining!

I would have loved to snorkel - but no one else was in the water because of the weather - scaredy cats!
