Today was awesome. There is no better way to describe it. We started off by taking a ferry to the Taronga Zoo. The weather: hot and sunny ( i loved it!) We made our way around the zoo taking in all of the exhibits. I was really bummed because the platypus and penguin exhibit were closed down - boooooooooo :O( We did see these awesome little Pygmy gliders that were mouse-sized - they could run straight up the glass! We also watched the seal show and visited a number of the walk-in exhibits throughout the park. We caught the last ferry home and the captain decided to take us on a little scenic ride past some of the more historical parts of the harbour - and the nude beach - EEK! Thank goodness Chad was asleep! After a quick dinner at the hotel we took a walk down to the Sydney Aquarium where the first exhibit was... a Platypus! I think we stayed in front of their tank for almost 20 minutes - they were just so cute! Everyone is always very surprised at how small they are in real life. Anyway the exhibits were really nice so we spent a while walking around. They had a hug walk through "fishbowl" exhibit with turtles and big sharks. It was really neat to pick out the fish we had seen on the reef and ID them. We were all a little bummed the touch and feel tank was closed and decided to catch a cab back to the hotel. Pam and I enjoyed a glass of wine and ice cream before heading to bed.

A Sydney Icon

The city, opera house, and bridge

Tex the Tasmanian Devil - look at his little red ears in the light - the keeper said this is why they have their name, because they look like devil horns

Eating some food - Tex is part of the breeding program in efforts to save the devils. Long story short a Cancer has broken out in the wild population in Tasmania and is causing population numbers to plummet. For more info check out: http://www.tassiedevil.com.au/index.html

Plumed Whistling Duck

Seal with a soccer ball

A "freshie", I'm hoping to see some wild ones when I go to Kakadu

Aw baby koala - sleeping as usual - 18-20 hours a day! They sleep a lot because they only eat a few select species of gum tree and get very little nutrition from their food.

Snow Leopard

Sorry - I just love Red Pandas

Nemo! I could not get that fish on the right to move out of the way!!

The North Carolina Zoo offers poison dart frogs in an exhibit designed to educate regarding the worldwide amphibian crisis. Many better zoos are doing something similar in what they are calling "The Year of the Frog". He believes that lizards preference to such habitats may be because the twisted crevices in the elephant-damaged trees give them shelter from predators and the harsh arid environment.
