Day 111 - Saturday - Cape Tribulation and the Daintree

Today began early once again and we enjoyed a brekkie of coffee and scones on our balcony before meeting our tour group at 7am. The tour group was called Billy Tea's Safari Tours and our guide was named Ronnie. The tour began by driving up to Mossman where we took a break and checked out the local market and tried some fresh fruit. Next we went on a river cruise to look for crocs but unfortunately the tide and weather was bad for it so we didn't see any. After the cruise, we headed to a lookout followed by a little wooden boardwalk that led into the forest. We were really lukcy because we got to see a wild cassowary. Next we went for lunch and we fed some kangaroos and wallabies while we waited for the BBQ to be ready. They were so cute! After of lunch of steak and salad we headed to a little creek up the coast to go swimming and sample some wild fruit. We spotted a young dingo chewing on a bone by the creek which apparently isn't that rare? Pam and I were disappointed the fruit wasn't 'Australian' - but at least it was grown locally. Next we headed back to Cape Tribulation for a walk on the beach before heading back to Cairns. I have to say I would have loved to do more hiking than the tour provided but I suppose the brochures are often a tad misleading. We went to the night markets for dinner and explored for a bit before we all called it an early night.

The boat tour

A little honey eated poking out of its nest to see what we are up to

Cape Tribulation - where the reef meets the rainforest

Golden Orb Spider - this guy was huge - that would be a normal nail (for size reference) in the corner of the sign...
